About us
Our humble beginning first took root with an autoimmune diagnosis in 2020. What began as a path to healing though food and lifestyle changes eventually blossomed into our vision today.
Against the Grain is a small family business between husband and wife, Joseph and Ashley, which all began with Ashley’s own health crisis and journey into holistic living. Together they have three young children who motivate them every day to make better health choices.
At Against the Grain, we dare to use simple ingredients, harnessing a careful selection of root starches also known as tubers, that when combined with common pantry items can create many of the much loved (and missed) sweet and savoury foods of our time.
At Against the Grain, we know what it’s like to feel limited when it comes to food. When our gluten free journey began, we were disappointed to find long lists of ingredients with additives we struggled to pronounce and products that didn’t quite measure up when it came to tastes and texture. As someone who has also suffered with life-long eczema, many of the grain based, gluten- free products weren’t ideal. And so… a love of baking and willingness to experiment with new ingredients began.
We have lovingly put together a thoughtful blend of grain-free flour and crumbing mix that will take your baking to a new level. Let’s face it! Who enjoys the tedious step of flour mixing before dipping their spoon into the real fun of baking? Not to mention the countless hours spent in the kitchen finding just the right balance to produce a flour and crumbing mix so versatile you’ll hardly believe it’s grain-free. And so… it is our pleasure to take you along on our own grain-free journey by sharing with you our all-time favourite recipes with many more to come.
